Periodontal Hastalık Nedir?

Dişlerin etrafındaki destek dokuları ve diş etlerini etkileyen hastalıklara periodontal hastalıklar adı verilmektedir. Periodontal hastalıklar zamanında teşhis edilirse tedavi edilebilmektedir. Periodontal hastalıklar basit bir diş eti iltihabından çene kemiklerinin eridiği, dişlerin sallanarak kaybedildiği şiddetli enfeksiyonlara kadar geniş bir alanı kapsar.

Periodontal hastalıklar dişeti iltihabı (gingivitis) ile başlar. Yani, gingivitis periodontal hastalığın erken dönemidir. Bu dönemde dişetleri kanamalı, kırmızı ve hacim olarak büyümüştür. Erken dönemde çok fazla rahatsızlık vermeyebilir. Tedavi edilmezse hastalık periodontitise ilerleyerek dişeti ve dişleri destekleyen alveol kemiğinde de geri dönüşümsüz hasar oluşturabilir.

Periodontitis, periodontal hastalıkların daha ilerlemiş bir safhasıdır. Dişleri destekleyen dokularla birlikte alveol kemiğinde hasar oluşur. Diş-dişeti arasında “periodontal cep” varlığı enfeksiyonun yerleşimini ve hastalığın ilerlemesini kolaylaştırır. Hastalık ilerledikçe dişler sallanmaya başlar, hatta çekime gidebilir.

What is Periodontal Disease?

The diseases affecting the supporting tissues and gums around the teeth are called periodontal diseases. Periodontal diseases can be treated if diagnosed in time. Periodontal diseases range from simple gingivitis to severe infections in which jaw bones are melted and teeth are lost by shaking.

Periodontal diseases start with gingivitis. So, gingivitis is the early period of periodontal disease. During this period, the gums were bleeding, red and enlarged in volume. It may not cause much discomfort in the early period. If not treated, the disease may progress to periodontitis and cause irreversible damage to the gums and alveolar bone that support teeth.

Periodontitis is a more advanced stage of periodontal diseases. Damage occurs to the alveolar bone along with the tissues supporting the teeth. The presence of a “periodontal pocket” between teeth and gums facilitates the settlement of the infection and the progression of the disease. As the disease progresses, the teeth begin to shake and may even be extracted.
